The Yellow River Qiankun Bay

Flowing for 68 kilometers through the County of Yonghe, there are 7 Bays formed along the Yellow River from north to south, which are Hero Bay, Yongheguan Bay, Guojiashan Bay, Hehuili Bay, Baijiashan Bay, Xianren Bay, and Yujiazui Bay. The 7 bays are collectively referred to as Qiankun Bay (Qian and Kun are the first and second diagrams of the Eight Trigrams according to ancient classic the Book of Changes, representing heaven and earth), which is the largest, densest, and best canyon-type “snaky landform” group among the main streams of rivers in China. It is the core district to build the Yellow River National Cultural Park and to create an important landmark of Chinese civilization.

The Yellow River Qiankun Bay Scenic Area is located in the Shanxi-Shaanxi Gorge, which is one of the ten most beautiful gorges in China. It is composed of seven parts, including the "0 KM" Logo Cultural Station on the Yellow River No. 1 Tourism Highway, Mt. Geshan, Dongzheng Village, Yujiazui Village, Xianren Bay, Yujiazui Bay, and the Yellow River “Snaky Landform” National Geological Museum.

The Qiankun Bay, lying on the river close to mountains and with protruding rocks and overhanging shelves, is the ultimate uncanny workmanship and a wonder created by nature. With vigorous and splendid landscape, the grand view of gorges is one of the most rarely seen natural wonders in the world. Above the bay, the records of geological evolution on the Mesozoic Triassic, Cenozoic Quaternary, and formation of the Yellow River are preserved, showing characteristics of the palaeo-river-lake environment and palaeogeographic evolution of the Ordos block. Herein, there is an ancient legend about Fuxi, the ancestor of the humanities, once stayed here to study astronomical phenomena and geomorphology, deduce Tai Chi and the Eight Trigrams, and create the precedent of Chinese civilization.

The scenic area is accommodated with plentiful natural resources and rich cultural heritage, which are included in one gorge with two bays and one garden with two pavilions. It is an important tourism place for appreciating the Chinese Yellow River culture.

The place looks like a serpentine loong! The scenic views is very beautiful, like a Tai Chi diagram including Qian and kun (heaven and earth). Welcome to the Yellow River Qiankun Bay Scenic Area in Yonghe county, Shanxi Province!
