Since the 1970s, the previous Yonghe County Party Committee and Government led all the local people to plant trees continuously. Using the new techniques such as transportation of soil to backfill through PVC pipes and transportation of nursery stocks through ropeway, they succeeded in planting 760,000 acres of trees in the rocky mountains above the angle of 60°and turned the barren hills and gullies into green ones. In the present, it becomes a beautiful scenery zone of the Yellow River Qiankun Bay, and is termed as a model ecological project in the Shelter Forest System Program in Three Northern Regions of China (short for the Three-North Shelter Forest Program).
